Netflix just confirmed the news announced by Ricky Gervais on Tuesday. The Internet TV network announced it has acquired select international rights to his upcoming The Office spinoff movie David Brent: Life On The Road for premiere in 2017. The deal excludes the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, where it will receive a theatrical release by Entertainment One in August.

The feature-length film sees a documentary crew catching up with Brent 12 years on from the BBC2 documentary The Office. He is now a travelling salesman, chasing his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band Foregone Conclusion.

The cast includes Ben Bailey Smith as Dom and writer-comedian Tom Basden as Dan, Brent’s road manager. Life On The Road also sees the introduction of Brent’s new office colleagues including love-struck Pauline (Jo Hartley), his “comedic” partner in crime Nigel (Tom Bennett), his office nemesis Jezza (Andrew Brooke), and his much needed therapist (Nina Sosanya). Brent’s drummer in his band is Andy Burrows of Razorlight and We Are Scientists fame.

Cast also includes Kevin Bishop, Roisin Conaty, Diane Morgan, Ashley McGuire, Alexander Arnold and Mandeep Dhillon.

David Brent: Life On The Road is a LOTR Films Ltd production, co-financed by eOne and BBC Films. The film is executive produced by Duncan Hayes, Christine Langan and Alex Hamilton, produced by Charlie Hanson (Cemetery Junction, Derek, Extras) and co-produced by Katie Mavroleon (Marley’s Ghosts, Pompidou).
