September 7 will be the night that CAA co-founders Michael Ovitz and Ron Meyer take the stage to compare their stories about the formation of that storied talent agency, along with author James Andrew Miller as he launches Powerhouse: The Untold Story
of Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency. Deadline’s Peter Bart revealed recently that the former partners, who rarely speak, would take the stage to kick off the publication of the new book. The event will take place at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles, with proceeds going to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
Both Ovitz and Meyer participated in the book by Miller, who previously wrote the ESPN oral history and used that same technique to tell the CAA story. Not surprisingly, both Ovitz and Meyer had differing recollections of what is now Hollywood history, in an early excerpt in Vanity Fair.
