Nardole is coming back. Matt Lucas is returning to Doctor Who for Season 10, which begins filming Monday in Cardiff, Wales.

It will be interesting to see exactly how and in what form Nardole returns. He was decapitated in last year’s Christmas special, The Husbands of River Song, and became one of two heads living in the torso of a huge robot. Last we saw him he was working as the “head waiter” at a fancy restaurant.

He joins Pearl Mackie, who also has joined the cast for Season 10 playing the companion of The Doctor, (Peter Capaldi), and Stephanie Hyam (Jekyll & Hyde) who will play a guest role.

Showrunner Steven Moffat penned Season 10’s opening episode. Brian Minchin is executive producer, Peter Bennett is producing and Lawrence Gough directs. The second episode has been written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce (Hilary and Jackie).Other writers working on the new season include Sarah Dollard and Mike Bartlett.

Doctor Who is produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One. It will return in December with a Christmas Special, followed by the new series in 2017.
