UPDATE: Adds quote from Hamilton production and more information, below.
As the producers and creatives behind tonight’s live CBS telecast of the Tony Awards met to strategize how the program would approach the news of the mass murders in at an Orlando, FL nightclub, the team behind Hamilton, the favorite to sweep the musical theater awards, made an adjustment of its own.
“The muskets have been eliminated from tonight’s performance in light of today’s event in Orlando,” Sam Rudy, the show’s spokesman, told Deadline. The number planned for the telecast includes the Battle of Yorktown, a decisive event in the American Revolution. The action now will be largely pantomimed. The move comes as part of a wave of condolences and tributes to the victims of the massacre from the Broadway community, and follows the announcement earlier today that the Tony Awards ceremony will be dedicated to the victims of the attack.

“Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando,” the Tony Awards producers said in a statement issued earlier today. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them. “
Hamilton is nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards, the most in Broadway history. The biggest-ever Tony winner was 2001’s The Producers, which took home 12 awards and was nominated 15 times.

Hahaha idiots
What a pathetic gesture.
Yeah, that will show ISIS
I’m guessing the words “respect” and “sympathy” are absent from your vocabulary.
You are as stupid as the producers of Hamilton you don’t realize that lowly muskets would have saved lives at Pulse last night.
Muskets are not really a good weapon against an AR-15 but they are better than no guns at all which is what the crowd had. Nothing. No weapons to fight back with.
This is why cowardly terrorists always go to gun-free zones to kill people. They don’t walk into a police station or an NRA gun show.
Although they have opened fire on army bases which crazy enough are or were gun-free zones.
There was security there. They were shot. A bunch of amateurs with guns firing wildly would have only made the body count even higher. That “good guy with a gun” theory only works in the peabrains of Wayne LaPierre and fools like you. You probably weren’t around in 1981 when Reagan and three others were shot, despite being surrounded by at least half a dozen good guys with guns, aka Secret Service agents. Go back to bed.
Good response in return of this issue with genuine arguments
and telling the whole thing concerning that.
Yeah cause that would’ve upset the 3 people in NYC watching this.
Yeah too bad Hamilton has been such a flop.
this is a big deal. stop being immature and taking such a big action and trying to crush it down with your words. a lot of people watch these awards, not just 3 people in NYC.
Know what I find amazing? That the Broadway industry will self censor itself while the movie and TV industries will continue glamorizing gun violence.
Mr. Rudy, I’ll make sure to miss the broadcast. If you think “doing away with the guns” is the appropriate response to a terrorist attack, you have no idea what our founding fathers fought and died for. The guns aren’t to blame and your “gesture” is nothing more than a self-serving attempt to further your gun-blaming narrative and a denial of the true cause of this tragedy.
Pandering and disingenuousness, such as yours, are disgusting.
Exactly.
