2ND UPDATE: Amazon has picked up Season 2 of Fortitude for the U.S. and will stream it later this year. The trailer above is the UK version.

UPDATED: Pivot ceased operations in October, so Fortitude obviously won’t be airing there. Season 2 began airing January 26 on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Ireland.

PREVIOUSLY, June 27: “Bad things come at night.” And how. Judging from some of the imagery in the new trailer for Season 2 of Pivot and Sky Atlantic’s Fortitude, there’s some pretty terrible stuff going on in this titular little town in the Arctic wilderness. A fresh murder will rock the locals in the new season, plunging Fortitude into turmoil, while nature grows even more unpredictable, deadly and dangerous.

Dennis Quaid joins the Simon Donald-created horror thriller for its sophomore run, opposite returning stars Sofie Gråbøl and Richard Dormer. Parminder Nagr, Michelle Fairley, Robert Sheehan and Ken Stottalso are new for Season 2, with returnees including Luke Treadaway, Mia Jexen, Darren Boyd, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Alexandra Moen, Verónica Echegui, Sienna Guillory and Ramon Tikaram.

Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect again will produce with Sky Atlantic. Exec producers are Patrick Spence, Donald, Faye Dorn, Frith Tiplady, Anne Mensah, Jeff Skoll and Chris Loveall. The first season was Sky Atlantic’s biggest drama commission to date, and the series was acquired by broadcasters in more than 170 territories.

The second season of Fortitude launches in January on Pivot. Check out the icy trailer, which is set to Danny Cope’s haunting “A Perfect Day,” and tell us what you think.
