Don Winslow has announced on Twitter that he’s going back to write the third installment in the drug war novel series that began with The Power of the Dog and continued with last year’s much-lauded bestseller The Cartel. Fox made a big splashy deal for the movie rights to those novels, with Ridley Scott to direct the film from a script by Shane Salerno. Winslow’s declaration came just as The Cartel was released in paperback.
Winslow first is committed to collaborating with Heat director Michael Mann to co-create an original novel about the complex relationship between organized crime giants Tony Accardo and Sam Giancana. That novel will be the first title published through Michael Mann Books, the upstart imprint that landed with HarperCollins and its executive editor David Highfill.
