EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros and Safehouse Pictures have set The Signal helmer William Eubank to direct, and Underground’s Joe Pokaski to write Count. It’s a contemporary retelling of Alexandre Dumas’ revenge tale classic The Count Of Monte Cristo, set in the criminal underworld. Safehouse Pictures’ Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold are producing.

Pokaski just collaborated with Tunnell and Harold on the runaway slave episodic drama Underground, which was created by Pokaski and Misha Green, and which just got picked up for a second season as WGN’s breakout show. Pokaski’s credits include Daredevil and Heroes. Safehouse is in post-production on the Guy Ritchie-directed King Arthur, which was scripted by Harold and stars Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law for Warner Bros. They are prepping Robin Hood for Lionsgate with Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx and Eve Hewson starring. This becomes the production company’s third move into reinventing classic IP for the screen. Eubank is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, Pokaski by CAA.
