With an a capella score being billed as a Broadway first and involvement from some of the talents behind Hollywood’s Frozen and Pitch Perfect, the new musical In Transit is heading for a Broadway bow this fall. The musical will be staged at Circle in the Square Theater with direction and choreography by Broadway vet Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, Nice Work If You Can Get It) and a book, music and lyrics co-written by Frozen‘s Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

Chronicling the intertwining lives of 11 New Yorkers, In Transit‘s book, music and lyrics were co-written by the Academy Award winning Anderson-Lopez and James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth. The vocal arrangements are by Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, NBC’s The Sing-Off) and musical supervision is by Rick Hip-Flores (Broadway’s Rocky).

Sharon produces NBC’s The Sing-Off worldwide and serves as arranger, on-site music director and vocal producer for Universal’s Pitch Perfect films.

Casting, design team and production dates will be announced shortly, a spokesperson says. In Transit is produced by Janet B. Rosen for Six Train Productions. Scott Landis serves as Executive Producer.

According to a production statement, In Transit “is a new, modern musical bringing to life a vivid tapestry of characters and music in the city that never sleeps…or stands still. Inspired by the vibrant rhythms of life on the subway, In Transit follows the intertwining lives of eleven New Yorkers, all hoping to catch the express train to success, love and happiness…and the stops they make along the way.”

Director/choreographer Marshall is a three-time Tony Award winner for her choreography (2004’s Wonderful Town, 2006’s The Pajama Game and 2011’s Anything Goes). Her TV credits include Once Upon a Mattress and The Music Man.

Anderson-Lopez, a co-creator of In Transit, is best known for her songwriting work, with husband Robert Lopez, on Disney’s Frozen, including the quadruple-platinum hit song Let it Go.
