Another star of CBS’ venerable CSI franchise is returning to CBS to join the network’s Criminal Minds franchise. CSI: Miami alum Adam Rodriguez has joined as a series regular. His character, expected to fill the void left by the recent departure of original cast member Shemar Moore, will be introduced in Criminal Minds’ Season 12 premiere this fall.
“We’re all big fans of Adam’s and are excited to welcome him back to the CBS family as part of the terrific cast of Criminal Minds,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller.
Rodriguez will play a special agent who is a member of the FBI Fugitive Task Force and joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit. He joins returning stars Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.
“We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Adam Rodriguez to our amazing cast,” said executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer. “We have exciting storylines planned for his character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 12th season.”
Rodriguez, repped by UTA and Abe Hoch at A Management, recently recurred on the CW’s Jane The Virgin and Fox’s Empire. He spent 11 seasons on CSI: Miami playing Eric Delko.
Last year, CBS recruited the star of another CSI spinoff, CSI: NY’s Gary Sinise, to lead the Criminal Minds spinoff Beyond Borders.
Criminal Minds is produced by ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.
