UK-based Pari Passu Films is prepping YA project Hunting Lila and has attached American Honey breakout Sasha Lane to the title role. Oscar winning VFX supervisor Paul J Franklin is attached to make his directorial debut on the picture that’s based on the first in the series of books written by Sarah Alderson. Alderson co-wrote the screenplay with Oscar nominated editor Jon Harris (127 Hours). Gersh is handling domestic rights and is financing and packaging the film..

The story centers on Lila, a teenage girl who goes on the run after exposing her dangerous mind power, only to find herself at the heart of a secret war being fought between a shadowy military organization and a fugitive gang who might be just like her.

Andrea Arnold’s American Honey has had Cannes all abuzz this week with Focus Features boarding key international markets ahead of its competition screening yesterday. A24 had previously taken domestic. The road movie is a showcase for newcomer Lane. Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, Selma) in also talks to join the Lila cast.

Franklin is best known for his work with Christopher Nolan on the Dark Knight trilogy, as well as Inception and Interstellar. He calls Hunting Lila, “A fast-paced action piece: a coming of age story with big themes whose attention to the intimate and emotional sets it apart from other YA movies.”

Jessica Parker and Jessica Malik of Pari Passu are producing alongside Steve Clark-Hall. MyAnna Buring is executive producer.

Lane and Franklin are repped by Gersh. Alderson is repped by Gersh and 42.
