As Deadline exclusively reported last week, The Motion Picture Editors Guild board of directors has announced Catherine A. Repola as their pick to succeed outgoing National Executive Director Ron Kutak when he retires November 1. Repola, Western Executive Director of the Guild since 2010, first joined MPEG as an Assistant Executive Director in 1992, holding that post until 2010.
Among her accomplishments during this time, the Guild secured outstanding wages and benefits numbering in the millions of dollars on behalf of members seeking assistance from the union through proper enforcement of the terms and conditions under the Guild’s Collective Bargaining Agreements. She also oversaw the merging of the East and West editor’s guilds into a single national organization, the transfer of post-production sound members into the guild, and the merger of IATSE Local 854 and IATSE Local 683 as well.
Repola was promoted to Western Executive Director in 2010. During this time she was appointed to serve as Chair of the first-ever IATSE Women’s Committee in 2015, and 2016 she was elected to the Board of Directors of FilmL.A., Inc. Prior to joining the Editors Guild, Repola served as Associate Business Agent for the Office & Professional Employees Union, Local 174. Before that, she was Manager of Payroll and Residuals for MGM Studios/Turner Entertainment Company.
