After wowing critics here on the Croisette, Lionsgate is breaking its CBS Films Western Hell Or High Water wide sooner than expected. The film will still debut in a limited number of theaters on August 12, but it will now go wide the following weekend instead of August 26.

Taking a glace at the August schedule, one could argue that awards season is definitely starting during the last month of the summer with such titles as The Weinstein Co.’s The Founder and Paramount’s Florence Foster Jenkins. On August 19, Hell Or High Water will share marquee space with such wide entries as Paramount’s Ben-Hur, STX’s The Space Between Us, Warner Bros’ War Dogs and Focus Features’ family toon Kubo And The Two Strings.

Hell Or High Water follows two brothers played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster, who are robbing a West Texas bank chain they are literally in arrears to on their late mother’s property. Jeff Bridges plays a Texas Ranger who catches wind of their heists, and pursues them across the plains. The pic was directed by Scottish filmmaker David Mackenzie from a screenplay by Sicario scribe Taylor Sheridan.
