The biggest fan convention is looking to launch a branded awards show franchise. I’ve learned that Comic-Con International and Lionsgate, partners in the new video streaming service Comic-Con HQ, are in talks to create a Comic-Con awards show based on the 46-year-old event itself that would draw on its big fan base.

Lionsgate 4Details are sketchy as the idea is still in its early stages, but I hear the conversations are being led by David Glanzer, Chief Communications and Strategy Officer for Comic-Con International, and Jen O’Connell, Lionsgate head of alternative programming.

Comic-Con HQ — part of Lionsgate’s platform of OTT channels that also includes Tribeca ShortList and the recently-announced Kevin Hart Laugh Out Loud — launched in beta last weekend and will have its official premiere next month ahead of San Diego Comic-Con.
