ABC’s American Crime anthology series won ten Emmy nominations including Best Limited Series in its first season, even winning an acting statuette for Regina King. The series examines a The Contenders Emmys - 630x423different crime over the course of each season and in Season 2 it involved a male student accusing several members of a private school’s basketball team of sexually assaulting him and posting it on the internet.

The explosive topic, rarely if ever dealt with on a network TV series, captured strong attention, and among the cast, brought back many Season 1 cast including King, Felicity Huffman, and Lili Taylor in completely different roles. All three appeared at Deadline’s first-ever Contenders Emmys panel last month at the DGA, along with Executive Producer Michael J. McDonald. They all talked about the risks and rewards involved in tackling the controversial subject matter, how the actors felt about it from their own and their characters point of view, and why it was important to deal with in this format.
