A24 has swooped in to pick up domestic rights to Yorgos LanthimosThe Killing of a Sacred Deer. The film reteams Colin Farrell with The Lobster director Lanthimos. The film starts production in the U.S. in August. Casting of the other main roles is underway.

Sacred Deer will be produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe’s Element Pictures, which was among the producers of Lanthimos’s last film The Lobster along with Scarlet Films. The project is written by Lanthimos and his regular collaborator Efthymis Filippou.

Image (1) A24_logo__131205180530.jpg for post 647544The film is fully financed by Film4 and New Sparta Films under a partnership arrangement brokered by Hanway Films. The project was developed by Element Pictures and Film4. HanWay has boarded as worldwide sales agent here at Cannes.

The story follows a young man who needs to take revenge, a doctor who has to make a decision and his family that must survive. The Lobster won the Cannes Jury Prize in 2015, and Lanthimos’ Dogtooth won Cannes’ Prix Un Certain Regard in 2009.

A24 also took domestic on The Lobster after original distributor Alchemy ran into financial woes.

Farrell next will be seen in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He is repped by LBI Entertainment and CAA. Lanthimos is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Sayle Screen.
