EXCLUSIVE: New Line Cinema has acquired film rights to Swedish author Camilla Grebe’s bestselling 2015 novel The Ice Beneath Her. The psychological thriller will be produced by Andrew Lazar (American Sniper).

Similar in tone to such recent book-to-film adaptations as Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train with its unreliable narrator, Grebe’s book revolves around an investigator and psychological profiler who work to solve the case after a young woman is found beheaded in the home of a prominent businessman. The investigation quickly evolves into a race against time.

The novel will be released in December in North America via Ballantine Books. There are rights deals in 20 territories, with major launches planned in the UK, Germany and Italy. It marks Grebe’s first solo effort after teaming on previous suspense novels; she also is co-founder of the Swedish audio book publisher Storyside.

The deal was brokered by RWSG on behalf of the Ahlander Agency.
