During tonight’s MTV Movie Awards (which, yes, were taped last night in Burbank on the WB lot), Captain America star Chris Evans was on hand to debut an exclusive clip from Captain America Civil War. Don’t worry, true believers, we won’t belabor the point: you want to see Cap, Falcon and the Scarlet Witch taking out a bunch of enemies, along with a glimpse of the villain Crossbones, and Black Panther clawing into Cap’s shield, and you can do so here now.
Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo (who also directed Captain America: Winter Soldier and are soon to be tackling Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2), written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the film sees Chris Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man on opposite sides of the law when world governments try to regulate superheroes and armies come gunning for Cap’s old friend Bucky AKA The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Natch, the world’s heroes pick sides, and that means packing in nearly the entire lineup of heroes from previous Marvel films, including Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13), Don Cheadle (War Machine/Iron Patriot), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man).
The film also sees Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Tom Holland as Spider-Man make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts. Spoiler alert: early word from screenings held this weekend is that both are fantastic. Notably absent of course are Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who will next be seen in Thor: Ragnarok. Frank Grillo, Daniel Brühl and William Hurt also star. Like we said, it’s packed. It hits theaters May 6.
