Universal just announced that its untitled R-rated astronaut comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen will hit theaters on May 26, 2017, counter-programming Walt Disney’s sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The three comedic actors star as a trio of spacemen who discover a mysterious craft and learn they’re not equipped to represent humankind in a battle of intelligent life. Writer/producer Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street) is making his directorial debut here. Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, under their Point Grey Pictures banner, are producing. Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake are EPs. Rogen’s next movie with Universal is Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising on May 20. That will open against The Angry Birds Movie, which Hader headlines. Rogen is taking his August animated film for adults Sausage Party down to SXSW this month. Hader has a voiceover in that, and he’ll also co-star in Steven Spielberg’s The BFG. Galifianakis has the period romance drama Tulip Fever currently slated for this year opposite Oscar winners Christoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander.
