While Jimmy Kimmel talked to Ted Cruz last night, Stephen Colbert interviewed animated Donald Trump about Trump’s town hall time with Anderson Cooper on CNN the previous night, in which he was accused of behaving like a 5-year old. Colbert thinks that’s the secret to Trump’s popularity among GOP voters. Trump’s not complicated, like a 5-year old: When he’s mad, he yells. Girls are kinda yukky.

Hours before that town hall with Cooper, Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski had turned himself in to police in Florida after being charged with battery for allegedly grabbing and yanking former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields during a Trump rally as she attempted to buttonhole Trump for a question.

Trump defended Lewandowski during the town hall, telling Cooper that Fields’s pen might have been a bomb. And yet, though that Trump line set the bar that high, the best line of the night had gone to Cooper. After Trump gave a “he started it” response to a question about retweeting that unflattering photo of Ted Cruz’s wife next to one of his former model wife Melania, Cooper said,  “With all due respect, that’s the argument of a 5-year-old.”

To which Trump replied: “I didn’t start it – no it’s not,” adding, “You would say that. That’s the problem with our country” when Cooper pushed back.
