Original documentary Serena, described as an intimate portrait of four-time Olympic gold medalist and international sports icon Serena Williams, is slated to premiere June 22 at 8 PM ET/PT/ 7 C on Epix.
Shot verité style, the feature-length documentary, executive produced by Peter Berg, focuses on the external pressures and vulnerabilities Williams faces in her quest to achieve four Grand Slams in a row (a “Serena Slam”), and her losses at the 2015 U.S. Open and 2016 Australian Open. The film also looks at Williams’ life off the court with her family and inner circle of coaches, trainers and friends, according to Epix.
Serena is produced by Berg’s Film 45’s Matthew Goldberg and Brandon Carroll, and directed by Ryan White. Jocelyn Diaz, Ross Bernard and Jill Burkhart are the executive producers for Epix. Valerie Bishop produces for Epix.
