SXSW-2016-logoEXCLUSIVE: Here’s a trailer for Semana Santa, the debut feature from writer-director Alejandra Marquez Abella that premiered at Toronto and will screen at SXSW. A young woman who lost her husband takes a tropical beach vacation with her new boyfriend and her 8-year-old son. There is much drinking and much bonding — “We’ll never be apart again,” she tells the child — but it’s not all paradise. Her new beau tries to win the affections of her boy but battles party lights, tight funds and youthful temptation.

Tenoch Huerta, Anajosé Aldrete Echevarria, Esteban Avila and David Thornton star in the subtitled Spanish-language pic from Mundial, Pimienta Films and Itaca International. Produced by Nicolás Celis and Sebastián Celis, Semana Santa scored a trophy at last year’s Los Cabos Film Festival. The film screens Sunday, Monday and Thursday in Austin. Check out the trailer above.
