Weeds alum Justin Kirk has been cast as the lead in Fox’s drama pilot APB. Also cast in the pilot, directed by Len Wiseman, is Eric Winter (The Mentalist).

Written by David Slack, APB was inspired by the New York Times Magazine article “Who Runs The Streets Of New Orleans.” Fox LogoIt explores what happens when enigmatic tech billionaire Gideon Reed (Kirk) purchases a troubled police precinct in the wake of a dear friend’s murder. Gideon, a creative genius with a childlike curiosity whose alien awkwardness is balanced by an undeniable charm, sets out to rethink everything about the way cops do business.

Winter will play Sgt. Tom Murphy, a vice cop, a tough guy with a big heart and a family man. He is married to homicide detective Amelia Murphy (Natalie Martinez), with whom he has two children.

Slack and Wiseman executive produce alongside David Bernardi, Dennis Kim, Todd Hoffman and Robert Friedman for 20th Century Fox TV.

Kirk recently did arcs on Wayward Pines and Manhattan. He will be seen in the upcoming Ghostbusters and currently is filming Tribes Of Palos Verdes opposite Jennifer Gardner. He is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Ziffren.

Winter is repped by Gersh, BEP and attorney Bob Wallerstein.
