Suits co-star Gina Torres is set for the title role in ABC drama pilot The Death Of Eva Sofia Valdez. The casting won’t impact 
Torres’ status on the popular USA drama for the time being. Suits, which just ended its fifth season, has been renewed for Season 6 to launch this summer. I’ve learned that Torres will remain a regular through season 6, fulfilling her six-year contract, with her character likely getting phased out.

ldez is described as a sexy revenge drama with a supernatural twist and MacBeth with a Cuban twist. It centers on Eva Sofia Valdez (Torres), an immigrant who rose from rags to riches and is a celebrated Miami entrepreneur and a champion for immigrant rights. But the success of this ” modern-day Havana-born Cleopatra” is fueled by an insatiable ambition that could destroy her family, a vendetta against the lover who betrayed her, and ghosts from the past who threaten to reveal the dark sacrifices Eva Sofia made to attain the American Dream.
Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters executive produce alongside Castro Smith for ABC Studios.
This would mark the first series lead role for Firefly and 24 alumna Torres who has been a standout on Suits as the smart and decisive Jessica Pearson. She also recurred on NBC’s Hannibal and ABC’s Revenge. Torres is repped by Domain and Framework Entertainment.

Phasing her out of Suits would be a very bad idea in my opinion.
Season 6 of Suits airs this summer. There will likely not be a season 7. This new gig is just being cast for pilot.

i’m pretty sure suits is renewed for season 7 as well; pretty well tells the suits story arc this season; jessica is replaced in a coup by either harvey or louis leading to daniel hardman somehow returning and suits wrapping in season 7, the last great usa series; psych, white collar, burn notice, suits, sports shrink (can’t remember name) rush, legal arbitrator (name?) usa turned out some brilliant ground breaking series; gl to jessica going forward
