Frank Sinatra Jr, who followed his iconic father into a singing career and dabbled in acting has died. He was 72. The Sinatra family told Associated Press that he died Wednesday of cardiac arrest while on tour in Daytona Beach, FL.

The only son of Frank Sinatra, he followed his father into a recording career at an early age and later worked with his as a musical director and conductor. He recorded about a half-dozen albums from the 1960s to the mid-2000s and was a regular on the touring circuit. He also appeared on numerous talk and variety shows during the ’60s and ’70s.

Born on January 10, 1944, in Jersey City, NJ, Sinatra Jr also was an actor. He appeared in a handful of films and did guest spots on such TV series as Hawaii Five-O, Adam-12, Marcus Welby M.D. and The Love Boat. He also voiced himself in a couple of Family Guy episodes and appeared as himself on a Season 2 episode of The Sopranos, playing cards with Silvio (Steven Van Zant), Johnny Sack (Vince Curatola) and others.

The family made headlines in 1963, when Sinatra Jr was kidnapped from a Lake Tahoe hotel at age 19. He was freed two days later after his father paid ransom, and three men were tried and convicted for the crime.
