Evan Handler, currently playing Alan Dershowitz on FX’s The People vs OJ Simpson, has been upped to series regular on VH1’s hip-hop drama The Breaks. He played Jonah “Juggy” Aaron in the original movie that has since been ordered to series for premiere later this year.
Based on Dan Charnas’ nonfiction book The Big Payback: The History Of The Business Of Hip-Hop, The Breaks follows the journey of Nikki (Afton Williamson), David (David Call) and DeeVee (Mack Tristan Wilds) as they work to make their mark in the 1990s New York music industry.
The original movie premiered January 4 and with its encore pulled in 2.6 million total viewers that night. Seith Mann (The Wire, The Walking Dead, Homeland) is writing, directing and executive producing the series with Charnas and Bill Flanagan. Maggie Malinai is executive producer for VH1.
Handler (Californication) is repped by APA and Sanders Armstrong Caserta Management.
