Conan O’Brien tonight tossed his TBS late-night show opening monologue, in order to talk about Garry Shandling having coached him through his breakup with NBC back in 2010.

“During a particularly difficult time in my life, as fate would have it, Garry just magically appeared and he helped me a lot and that’s what I’ve been thinking about these past several hours,” Conan said of the actor and comedian, who died in a Los Angeles hospital at age 66 after a “medical emergency,” according to LAPD.

“I was at a real low point; he counseled me, he told me jokes. He told me there were bigger things in the world,” Conan began.
