The film, based on Bruce Brown’s popular graphic novel of the same name, is being done in conjunction with Shout! Factory. Perlman will voice the role of Shoggoth, and Plummer has been cast in the role of Dr. Herbert West.

The intent of the project is to introduce another generation to the work of 1920s horror master H.P. Lovecraft. The project is said to blend the biography of the young H.P. with his writings in a family-friendly genre that will both be spooky and entertain.

Shout! Factory had secured all U.S. rights to the film in all areas — theatrical, digital, broadcast, home entertainment — last year and has rights for cross-platform releases in Canada. The film is scheduled for a fall 2016 release.

People do know that Lovecraft was a vicious racist, right?
