CBS has set The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special to air on at 10 PM Tuesday, March 29. The special will feature Jennifer Lopez, well as highlights from past segments, plus James Corden’s favorite moments from his first year as host of The Late Late Show.
Not coincidentally, the special announcement follows a report that CBS Studios, James Corden, and Fulwell 73 are shopping a Carpool Karaoke series. Corden would not host but would make appearances in the project, looking to cash in on the franchise’s enormous popularity, in much the same way The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’s franchise Lip Sync Battle got spun-off into a success series on Spike.
“I have loved every minute of hosting The Late Late Show,” said Corden. “It’s been an incredible year. I look forward to this hour on primetime to look at some of my favorite moments and share a couple of great new ones.”
Corden’s Late Late Show‘s post-Super Bowl broadcast delivered the highest ratings, with any host, since the show’s inception in 1995. The show has become known for generating buzzworthy viral videos. It holds the YouTube record for the most watched late-night clip with “Adele Carpool Karaoke,” which has 84 million views. The show’s YouTube Channel has amassed more than 800 million total views and 3.9 million subscribers since the show’s premiere on March 23, 2015. In addition to its success on YouTube, The Late Late Show is the most social late night show in its time period and the second most social broadcast late night show, according to Nielsen Social.
