EXCLUSIVE: Keshet International will serve up new primetime format Battle Of The Chefs at next month’s Mip-TV market in Cannes. The series, whose first edition, Battle Of The Chefs – Italy, is due to air on Israel’s Keshet Broadcasting this summer, is produced by MasterChef‘s Gil Productions. Cooking shows continue to be hot formats in the international marketplace and this one is anticipated to see strong sales on the Riviera as one of the major offerings from Keshet.
The original four-part series pits Israel’s two top chefs, Eyal Shani and Yonathan Roshfeld, against one another in a culinary competition that takes them out of their comfort zones. The chefs are sent to a country — in this case Italy — that boasts some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and produces some of its finest cuisine. But the chefs, who are known for big egos, are virtually unknown in the foreign destinations. There, they compete in regional challenges to win the seal of approval from a panel of local experts including Michelin-starred chefs, food journalists and critics.
The chefs vie to earn a star in each of the challenges which include cooking with a local ingredient, or mastering a local dish. The finale sees them prepare a three-course meal inspired by the region.
In the case of the Israeli version, Shani and Roshfeld have both been judges on the local version of MasterChef, and each has several bustling and renown restaurants in Tel Aviv. That’s expected to make the show a big draw when it airs this summer.
