baftasUPDATE: Adding to its six BAFTA TV Craft Awards nominations, Wolf Hall — Playground Entertainment, Company Pictures and BBC Two’s adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize winning novels — also now leads the main pack of nominees for the House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards with four total. Those include Best Drama Series and Leading Actor for this year’s Supporting Actor Oscar and BAFTA winner Mark Rylance. Shane Meadows’ latest installment in the This Is England series, This Is England ’90, followed with three nominations. The drama’s Stephen Graham is likewise nominated for his lead performance, as are Luther‘s Idris Elba and London Spy‘s Ben Whishaw. Elba and Rylance faced off earlier this year in the Supporting Actor race at the BAFTA Film Awards.

Channel 4’s Humans and No Offence along with Sky’s The Last Panthers round out the Drama Series category. Downton Abbey, despite this being its final eligible year, was a shut-out. BAFTA did honor it with a special prize last summer while star Hugh Bonneville picked up his fourth nomination for Best Male Performance in a Comedy with W1A.

Last year’s new hit BBC drama Doctor Foster scored nods in the miniseries category and for lead Suranne Jones. Doctor Who picked up a mention for Michelle Gomez’ turn as Missy in the Supporting Actress race. Other notables include Ian McKellen for his supporting part in the BBC’s one-off stage adaptation of The Dresser. This is his first TV BAFTA nomination. Also a first-timer, Adele is up for Adele At The BBC. Writer Jack Thorne, meanwhile, is a triple nominee today for The Last Panthers, This Is England ’90 and Don’t Take My Baby. The awards will be handed out on May 8 in London. See below for the full list of nominees.

PREVIOUS: The nominations for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts TV Awards are being announced this morning in London. BBC Two’s Wolf Hall already leads the Craft Awards nominations which were unveiled last week. Also popular on the craft side are Sky Atlantic’s Fortitude, BBC One’s Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and Working Title/BBC Two’s London Spy. New BBC drama Doctor Foster could also feature today. ITV’s now-ended flagship drama Downton Abbey has had a series of BAFTA mentions over the years, but never won an above-the-line prize so it will be interesting to see if it garners any nods for its final season. We’ll be updating the nominees live, so check back for updates. The awards will be handed out on May 8.
