EXCLUSIVE: The video game franchise Backyard Sports will be turned into a feature film by Cross Creek Pictures and Crystal City Entertainment. The feature version of the Day 6 Sports Group property will be produced by Cross Creek Pictures president Brian Oliver and Crystal City president Ari Daniel Pinchot.
Backyard Sports lets gamers play with professional athletes, who are morphed
Crystal City most recently produced Infinitely Polar Bear, and Cross Creek most recently wrapped the Doug Liman-directed Tom Cruise starrer Mena and the Mel Gibson-directed Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield. Crystal City’s Stuart Savitsky and Jonathan Rubenstein will be exec producers, and John Doherty will oversee for Cross Creek.
Said Crystal City’s Pinchot: “This brand was a favorite of my children for years and represents the best of sports. We are thrilled to bring the imaginative world of Backyard Sports to the screen.” Oliver called it “one of the best-selling gaming franchises with over 20 million copies sold providing a perfect platform to build a live action/animated film and television franchise.”
