Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr broke the news over the summer that Fox 2000 and St Vincent director Ted Melfi were working to make a deal on Hidden Figures, the story based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s upcoming book about the unsung group of African American female math wizards who helped NASA win the space race and launch John Glenn into orbit. At the time names were already in the mix for roles in the cool project including Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson. The studio confirmed today that Henson, the star of Fox’s TV hit Empire, has now been set to topline as mathematician Dorothy Johnson. Still to come are castings for her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson. Stay tuned.
