UPDATED with new poster at bottom: Picked up to series last October, Roadies is Cameron Crowe’s first foray into television and it shows. I mean because of the subject matter. The show follows a group of roadies working for the arena rock group The Staton-House Band as they tour the United States. Focusing on the unconventional family they find in one another as well as their devotion to the music they love, it offers a look at the rock world through the eyes of the people who make it work correctly so the entertainers can entertain. The first official trailer has just been released and you can watch it here.
The 10-episode first season of Roadies kicks off June 26, Showtime said today.
Roadies is territory Crowe has mined plenty of times before – Almost Famous for instance, but elements of Singles too – but territory he hasn’t previously had this much time to explore. Luke Wilson and Carla Gugino star, along with Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor, Colson Baker, and Ron White. Luis Guzman, Jacqueline Byers, Finesse Mitchell, Branscombe Richmond and Tanc Sade guest star. It’s executive produced by Winnie Holzman, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, and Len Goldstein. Kathy Lingg co-executive produces. Cameron Crowe is also an executive producer along with serving as series creator, director, and writer. Holzman also serves as writer, and Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis produces.
