Superstore helmer Ruben Fleischer has come on board to direct The Second Fattest Housewife In Westport, ABC’s single-camera family comedy from novelist/TV writer Sarah Dunn, producer Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and ABC Studios.
Penned by Dunn, The Second Fattest Housewife In Westport is narrated by Katie, a (slightly) larger, strong-willed mother raising her flawed family of three in a wealthy town filled with “perfect” wives and their “perfect” offspring. Dunn and Kaplan executive produce.
This marks a reunion for Kaplan and Fleischer who worked together on the first incarnation of paranormal comedy Strange Calls — based on an Australian format — which was also set at ABC.
For Zombieland and Gangster Squad helmer Fleischer, Housewife is being carved out of his overall deal at Universal TV. Under that pact, Fleischer directed the pilot for one of the few breakout broadcast comedy series this season, NBC’s single-camera Superstore. (He has directed two more episodes of the show.) Fleischer is repped by CAA.
