We’re in the midst of another broadcast pilot season. With 80+ pilots ordered out of hundreds of scripts, landing a pilot pickup is not easy.  Here is Deadline’s annual Overachievers of Pilot Season list showcasing the select few individuals and production companies that beat the odds, and then some.

kevinwilliamson copyKevin Williamson saw all three of his broadcast projects go to pilot. That includes Time After Time at ABC and an untitled paranormal drama at the CW, which he wrote and is executive producing, as well as Fox drama Recon, which he executive produces. Additionally, he continues to serve as executive producer on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries.

Schur also has Fox comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which he co-created and exec produces.

Image (1) danfogelman__130815204716.png for post 565018Dan Fogelman has two hourlong pilots, The Pitch at Fox, starring Kylie Bunbury and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, which he co-created, and a dramedy at NBC starring Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, which he created. Fogelman also has ABC comedy series Galavant, which he created and exec produces, and Fox comedy series Grandfathered, which he exec produces.

Image (3) millermatt__130815171912.png for post 670463Similarly, Forever creator Matt Miller has landed two pilot orders — for an hourlong Lethal Weapon remake at Fox, which he wrote and executive produces, and single-camera comedy The Trail at NBC, which he co-created and executive produces.

phelan raterJoan Rater and Tony Phelan are writers and executive producers on two hourlong pilots at CBS, Nancy Drew reboot Drew and legal drama Doubt, re-piloted from last year.

Image (4) kapital__140110211922-275x208.png for post 662065Aaron Kaplan‘s Kapital Entertainment has two pilots, comedies The Second Fattest Housewife In Westport at ABC and What Goes Around Comes Around at CBS, as well as animated pilot presentation Botcop at Fox. Kaplan also exec produces series Life In Pieces (CBS), Secrets & Lies (ABC), The Mysteries of Laura (NBC) and Divorce (HBO).

Mark Gordon 2In his first year as an independent studio backed by Entertainment One, Mark Gordon‘s Mark Gordon Co. landed a series order for the Kiefer Sutherland starrer Designated Survivor at ABC and a pilot order for legal drama Conviction, also at ABC. Gordon also executive producesABC’s Quantico and Grey’s Anatomy, CBS’ Criminal Minds and spinoff Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders as well as Showtime’s Ray Donovan. 

ReichFriends alum Andrew Reich has two comedy pilots at ABC, Pearl, starring Candice Bergen, which he wrote and is executive producing, and the untitled Weeks & Mackay half-hour, which he executive produces and supervised the script for.

greggarciaMy Name Is Earl and Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia is executive producing two comedy pilots, Sebastian at NBC and untitled Stephnie Weir at CBS.

Tina Fey and Robert CarlockTina Fey and Robert Carlock are executive producing comedy pilot The Kicker at CBS and untitled Tracey Wigfield at NBC. They also have Netflix comedy series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which the duo created and exec produce.

Management/production company 3 Arts Entertainment is involved in producing 10 broadcast comedy pilots, including NBC’s Good Place, which has a straight-to-series order at NBC, I’m Not Your Friend starring Matt LeBlanc, which has a series penalty at CBS, as well as untitled Poehler/Grandy (NBC), untitled Tracey Wigfield (NBC), untitled Matt Hubbard (NBC), Marlon (NBC), The Kicker (CBS), Superior Donuts (CBS), Chad (Fox) and The Mick (Fox).

Image (1) shondaland__130819201815.jpeg for post 567157Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ Shondaland has two pilots at ABC, drama Still Star-Crossed and comedy Toast, written by Scott Foley and Greg Grunberg. The company already has four drama series on ABC, the Rhimes-created Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, as well as How To Get Away with Murder and The Catch.

David Janollari is producing two pilots, both at NBC, comedy Crunch Time and drama Midnight Texas.

ITV-based Marty Adelstein is executive producing ABC comedy pilot Fluffy Shop starring Gabriel Iglesias as well as the Prison Break reboot, which has a series order at Fox. Additionally, he exec produces Good Behavior, which just got picked up to series at TNT, as well as NBC’s Aquarius, ABC’s Last Man Standing and MTV’s Teen Wolf. 

Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly have CBS drama pilots Four Stars and Doubt. Additionally, the duo exec produces Elementary and The Odd Couple at CBS and Masters of Sex at Showtime.

In its first development season, Sony TV’s relaunched TriStar TV label landed two broadcast pilots, Sensory at CBS and Model Woman at ABC, in addition to a couple of Amazon pilots and series Good Girls Revolt.

millerlordPhil Lord and Chris Miller are executive producing the Fox time-travel comedy pilot in addition to getting a series order for the animated Son of Zorn, also at Fox. They also also executive produce Fox comedy series The Last Man On Earth.

Corinne Brinkerhoff, who recently landed a straight-to-series order for her murder mystery American Gothic at CBS, also landed a pilot order for No Tomorrow at the CW.

Imagine TV received a pilot order for 24: Legacy and a series pickup for Shots Fired at Fox where the company has hit series Empire. 

Amblin TV got a pilot order for CBS drama Bull and a series order for American Gothic at CBS. The company also has drama series The Americans on FX.

Two uber producers with large portfolios of broadcast dramas added another high-profile pilot. Greg Berlanti, who has six broadcast series on the air, Blindspot and Mysteries of Laura on NBC, Supergirl on CBS and Legends Of Tomorrow, Arrow and The Flash, has hot CW pilot RiverdaleDick Wolf has added a pilot for another Chicago drama pilot to the four drama and one unscripted series he has on NBC, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: You the Jury.

pamelafrymanjamesburrows copyVeteran multi-camera directors James Burrows and Pam Fryman have both lined up multiple broadcast pilots. Burrows, who just hit a major milestone — 1,000 directed episodes — is helming 4 multi-camera pilots: CBS’ I’m Not Your Friend starring Matt LeBlanc, Superior Donuts starring Jermaine Fowler, and untitled Stephnie Weir/Greg Garcia as well as NBC’s Me and Mean Margaret. Fryman is helming NBC’s Good Fortune and CBS’ My Time/Your Time (both hybrid). She also is directing the opening episode of Netflix’s One Day at a Time.
