Open Road Films and MadRiver Pictures have signed a non-exclusive production alliance for all of Open Road Films’ inside productions over the coming years. Marc Butan’s MadRiver Pictures will work with Open Road’s team to source and oversee production of Open Road Films’ in-house productions, with the plan to produce 2-4 films a year, with Open Road releasing domestically.
Separately, Open Road will have a first-look on acquiring U.S. distribution rights on MadRiver films. It already is aboard as distributor on John Hillcoat’s Triple 9 which bows February 26.
Under terms of the new alliance, foreign sales on MadRiver productions will be handled by MadRiver’s new international sales arm run by Kimberly Fox. Foreign sales on Open Road’s in-house productions will continue to be handled by Open Road International and partner FilmNation.
The deal was negotiated by Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg and COO Elliott Kleinberg and by Butan on behalf of MadRiver.
