It’s jumped around town for years in many incarnations at various studios, but Lionsgate just announced that it will produce a film version of MacGyver with Fast And Furious‘ producer Neal Moritz working with the original MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff on the project. The news comes after CBS gave a pilot order earlier this week to a reimagining of the series from Saw and Furious 7 director James Wan and CBS TV Studios, with Paul Downs Colaizzo scripting. Wan previously developed a young MacGyver feature film focusing on the lead’s college years.
The film project was announced as part of Lionsgate’s analyst call early this morning where it talked about looking at properties both in terms of doing TV and film projects at once.
MacGyver, which aired from 1985-92 on ABC, is about a former Special Forces who used science to help him escape dangerous situations while defeating bad guys.
