Laika, the Portland-based animation house behind the Oscar-nominated films Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls, has tapped former NBCUniversal executive Bradley Wald as its new Chief Financial Officer. Wald will lead Laika’s business operations as it continues to expand the number of projects in production.
Most recently, he held the position of Chief Commercial Officer of International TV Production for NBCUniversal out of London. In that position he managed the company’s successful Downton Abbey commercial activities, expanding the show’s global reach alongside the Distribution and Home Entertainment teams. Wald also helped develop ancillary revenue channels including a LIMA Award-winning consumer products portfolio and sponsorship solutions for broadcasters, and developed and produced social media apps and content. Prior to NBCU, Wald served as Comcast Managing Director/SVP for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, leading a team that expanded the reach of E! and other channels in those regions. Wald also held a senior executive position at The Box Worldwide.
Among its upcoming projects, Laika has the feature Kubo and the Two Strings due in theaters this August and is in development on Wildwood and Goblins. The company also has created stop-motion animated segments for films such as A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.
