EXCLUSIVE: Justin Kirk has been tapped to join the cast of The Tribes Of Palos Verdes, the coming-of-age drama based on Joy Nicholson’s debut YA novel that is being toplined by Jennifer Garner. The is the role originally set for Stephen Moyer, who was slated to play Garner’s husband and father to their two kids, one half of a couple whose marriage is disintegrating. He departed the pic earlier this month when his schedule didn’t mesh, and the filmmakers worked fast to zero in on Kirk.
Alicia Silverstone and Tom Cocrel have also are joining indie drama, which Emmett and Brendan Malloy are directing from Karen Coner’s adaptation.
The pic is set in the affluent Los Angeles suburb of Palos Verdes, centering on two teenagers who move to the beach community with their parents as their mother teeters on the brink of a nervous breakdown and their father becomes a surgeon to the stars. Garner plays the mom and Kirk the father. Maika Monroe plays the daughter, Medina, who turns to surfing as an escape, and Cody Fern (War Horse) is playing her brother Jim who struggles with the temptation of drugs.
Elisabeth Rohm, Goran Visnjic, Milo Gibson, Noah Silver, Joely Fisher and Stevie Lynn Jones are also in the cast. The Firm’s Robbie Brenner and Croner are producing, with The Firm’s Jeff Kwatinetz and Kevin McKeon executive producing.
Kirk was recently nominated for a Critics Choice Award for WGN America’s Manhattan and is next up in Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot. He’s repped by UTA, Management 360 and attorney PJ Shapiro. Silverstone is repped by UTA and Untitled.
