Oscars: BidenJam's Back This Weekend With VP Attending Academy Awards

Undoubtedly you’ve seen the memo and know the drill of the Hollywood road closures and heavy security that will go into effect this weekend with the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday but get ready because things, to quote past Oscar winner Eminem, are about to get heavy. That’s right, with Vice-President Joe Biden hitting the stage at the Dolby Theater on the 28th to introduce Lady Gaga’s performance – L.A. is about to be hit big with another BidenJam.

Oscars 3According to the list just released by the LAPD (see below), the Westside will see the bulk of the closures and congestion with the Veep and Dr. Jill Biden arriving in town on Saturday evening via Air Force 2. As L.A. saw back in November the last time the VP was in town and as used-to-it D.C. residents learned again when the Bidens dropped in on an advance screening of Tina Fey’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot earlier this week, everything else comes to a halt when the full force of Executive Branch protection is implemented. With Biden in town for 2-nights, expect your Monday morning AKA Oscar hangover commute to be tied up too. The Veep and Dr. Biden aren’t leaving town until the late morning on the 29th.

While the Secret Service likes to keep President Barack Obama and the Vice-President’s exact movement and routes hush hush when either of the duo are in town, here are the road closures and time the LAPD have announced. Two things, one, its way more intrusive than when Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton was in town on the 22nd for fundraisers. Secondly, you really might not want to linger too long in Santa Monica after the Independent Spirit Awards are done tomorrow if you don’t want to be stuck in traffic for the rest of the night. As for Oscar night – well, it’s gonna be a total lockdown around Hollywood and Highland as well as a lot of Beverly Hills and West L.A – so plan accordingly.

CLOSURES / RESTRICTIONS (There are no hard closures during this visit.)

Avenue of the Stars, Los Angeles, CA

Vehicular traffic will be limited or restricted on Avenue of the Stars between Constellation Avenue and Pico Boulevard from 5:00 p.m. on February 27, 2016 to 11:00 a.m. on February, 29, 2016.

  1. Not just the roads. All civil airspace will be closed too. This is a fucking joke. Sick of the TFRs all because these politicians make us pay millions of dollars in security and infrastructure shutdowns so they can ham it up.

    1. Exactly. I was flying into MSP 10 days ago and all traffic was stopped at the airport for 45+ minutes while VP Joe was taking off. It was loads of fun having to stay up in the air (and then miss my connection) so that Joe could push his agenda in St. Paul that day. Should warn air travelers because I could’ve gone through another Delta hub that day.

  2. Why is the sitting Vice President…introducing Lady Gaga at the Os–you know what, just forget it. Nothing surprises me anymore.

    1. Hollywood fears large protests and violence this year, rather than appear heavy-handed and make their fears obvious by adding heavy security, they’ve invited Biden so the extra security could be passed-off as common for any event VP Biden would attend. He could’ve easily had prepared a video ..as in past events, if he truly had something important to say.

  3. He’s there to introduce her because there’s a very important message that EVERYONE should pay attention to. One that 43million viewers need to do their part to make right. College assault needs to stop!

    1. Yes, I’m sure the ’43 million viewers” will be comprised of college age millenniuls interested in watching the Oscars. Won’t they be hiding in their safe spaces in case Chris Rock says something mean?

    2. College assault is so over blown it’s a joke. So he or gaga are going to talk about the doc the Hunting Fields…really what a name for a documentary. It, like so many other documentaries are so one sided. I am sure there will be no mention of all the women students who have lied about being assaulted like the one in the Rolling Stone. Read feminist Camille Paglia’s take on this subject.

  4. Obama couldn’t attend Justice Scalia’s funeral because he said it would create security issues. But this is fine. What a hypocrite.

  5. Democrats are more interested in being celebrities than abiding by the Constitution and representing the People.

  6. their are so many more important things to get done and he is here causing traffic jams to introduce GaGa , what is it with these socialist for they always want the spot lite just because joe could never make it to be president and he was picked as vp because he doesnt fo a dam thing

  7. And so the Shakespearean play begins—Biden is rolled out in high profile to prepare the public for his emergence into the Presidential race to replace Hillary upon her eventual FBI indictment. You’ll see.

  8. The whole politically charged Oscars are nothing but bullshit and bullshit is nothing but chewed up grass.

  9. The Govt has money for this nonsense but no VA benefit increase this year. Hey Joey, ever heard of a live video feed. You do it with a box with moving pictures in it. It works pretty good. TRY IT.

  10. What the hell is he doing at the Oscars? And to introduce a singer? WHY? There’s no reason. He also should know better than to add security concerns(and more traffic headaches) to an event that already brings with it security concerns and traffic headaches. He and Obama(who has been here himself about a gazillion times since he’s been in office)don’t give a damn about anybody but themselves.

  11. I move that all Oscar events be moved to Washington DC. No one around here cares anymore.

I also move that all streets on the west side of LA be ripped up. Rarely a week goes by that someone from DC isn’t here with their security people shutting everything down while they raise money at Hollywood parties or appearing as a guest on some vulgar TV show. If we can’t use our own streets, let’s stop wasting money maintaining them for “royalty”.

  12. WTF…this world is sitting on the cusp of WW3 and our creepy VP is at the oscars for Gaga? AND I’m sure our taxes pay for it!!! How about feeding a few dozen hungry families instead of giving this whack job a red carpet to walk down. Disgusting!!!! SMH
