EXCLUSIVE: Studio 8 has elevated four executive assistants to become creative executives. Rishi Rajani, Greg Self, Kevin Shih and Liz Varner have all been promoted in Jeff Robinov’s expanding film and TV production company. Studio 8 recently put its first homegrown film into production, Solutrean, the Albert Hughes-directed survival story set 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age.
Rajani becomes CE in the Literary department, focusing on intellectual property in film and TV. He was assistant to lit division head Chris Goldberg and was previously at UTA and Paradigm. Self, former assistant to founding Studio 8 exec Jon Silk, becomes CE in motion pictures after joining from Good Universe last March and starting at Gilbert Films.
Shih, who was assistant to Studio 8 founder and CEO Robinov, becomes CE in motion pictures. He previous was an assistant at Plan B and worked in CAA’s motion picture lit department. Varner, who worked under TV division head Katherine Pope, becomes CE for TV. She followed Pope from Chernin Entertainment and before that was an assistant in ICM Partners’ TV lit department.
Funded by China-based Fosun, Section 8’s first logo appearance on a film will be the Ang Lee-directed Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which TriStar releases November 11.
