I’ve learned that Amazon has given a pilot order to I Love Dick, a half-hour comedy pilot directed and executive produced by Transparent creator Jill Soloway, an Emmy and DGA Award winner for her directing work on the dark Amazon comedy starring Jeffrey Tambor.
Written by playwright Sarah Gubbins based on Chris Kraus’ influential and somewhat controversial 1997 novel, I Love Dick is set in a colorful academic community in Marfa, Texas. It centers on a struggling married couple, Chris and Sylvere, and their mutual obsession with an off-putting but charismatic professor, Dick. Told in Rashomon-style shifts of POV, I Love Dick charts the unraveling of a marriage, the awakening of an artist and the reluctant deification of a man named Dick.
I Love Dick, Soloway’s followup to her award-winning Transparent, is produced by Soloway and Andrea Sperling’s newly formed Topple Productions under the company’s overall deal with Amazon Studios. Soloway and Sperling executive produce, with Gubbins co-executive producing.
I Love Dick joins two drama pilots Amazon has in pre-production, The Last Tycoon and The Interestings.
Soloway, Gubbins and Sperling are repped at UTA. Soloway is also repped by Jackoway Tyerman, Sperling by Linda Lichter.

Sounds like the sophomore jinx is coming ’round the bend.
Ugh. Keep to the celebrity circuit, Jill, and leave the writing to the writers.
Proud of Jill. Lot of heart in her stories. Was happy to hear this was going to be set in Marfa; great place to nurture interesting characters.
I used to be on her Facebook friend list but deleted her as I got tired of her delusional rants. They completely put me off watching any of her programs in future.
Creative way to indirectly gloat about something of non-importance.
Lol, me too. She writes some really mean stuff about men, like we are packs of filthy savages.
What rants?
Two for two on the pun titles.
For the sake of the children, please change the title! For they most certainly do not love dick, unless they are in SF.
Maybe we should just ban the name because you can’t think of anything else when you see it.
Sounds as bad as Transparent
Great for Jill. Can’t wait to see which writers assistant writes it for her.
Are Noah, Bridget & Micah going to run this one for her too?
Can she think of anything besides genitals — ever.
