Jessy Hodges (Hindsight) is set to lead the ensemble cast of NBC’s multi-camera comedy pilot Good Fortune. Rounding out the core quintet in the project, from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s Le Train Train, is Blake Lee (Mixology, Parks & Recreation). Hodges and Lee join previously cast Tone Bell, Beau Mirchoff and Diane Guerrero. 20th TV is the studio.
Written by Matt Zinman & Craig Gerard and directed by Pam Fryman, Good Fortune focuses on June (Hodges), a hyper-structured young woman who, after a fortune teller predicts she’ll die in three days, decides she’s finally going to live her life with no regrets. When she doesn’t die but realizes how great it felt to take risks, she adopts a new life policy along with a new full-time fortune teller. June and her best friends Adam (Bell), Dave (Mirchoff), Bailey (Guerrero) and Metzger (Lee) plan to stick together always, impending doom or not. Lee’s Metzger is June close friend who is realizing after announcing he is gay that it was obvious all along.
Good Fortune has a similar setup to 20th TV’s hit comedy How I Met Your Mother, which also was directed by Fryman. Both shows have a central storyline focused on one character — Hodges’ June, HIMYM‘s Josh Radnor’s Ted telling the story of how he met the wife of his children — while being full-fledged five-member young ensembles, cast primarily with up-and-coming actors.
Hodges is repped by Gartner/Green, Gersh and SGSBC. Lee is with UTA and Management 360.
