EXCLUSIVE: For those who like their science fiction deeply unsettling, the upcoming thriller Half Life combines echos of the Chernobyl disaster with paranoia about hidden conspiracies as well as modern worries about fuel scarcity. Set in the near future, Half Life follows a safety inspector sent to find out why a remote nuclear power plant has suddenly gone offline. Once there, she encounters the sole employee at the plant, a paranoid, distrustful recluse, along with an injured stranger who claims to know the truth about what exactly has happened. Directed by Dagen Merrill and starring Dominic Monaghan, Sarah Habel and Tom Sizemore, Jaime Burke and Vahan Paretchan produced Half Life for Lifeboat Productions. The film is in postproduction, and you can watch the exclusive first trailer above.

Epic Pictures Group has just acquired Half Life, as well as the acclaimed SXSW comedy Uncle Kent 2, and has added both films to its EFM slate. The surreal follow-up to Joe Swanberg’s equally strange 2011 comedy, Uncle Kent 2, follows the title character to San Diego Comic-Con, where he must confront the end of the world while possibly losing his mind. It reunites the first film’s cast of Kent Osborne, Swanberg and Jennifer Prediger, and won the audience award at the 2015 SXSW. Written by Osborne and directed by Todd Rohal with animation by Pendleton Ward it will see release in North America by Factory 25 later this Spring.

Epic CEO Patrick Ewald and co-founder Shaked Berenson negotiated the deals for both films, with Jeremy Tenser of Tenser Law, Vahan Paretchan of Lifeboat Productions and APA’s William Lowery negotiating the Half Life deal, and Georg Kallert negotiating on behalf of the Lodger Films production Uncle Kent 2.
