NBC’s proposed legal drama spinoff from Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise, starring Philip Winchester, has locked in a key auspice. Jean de Segonzac, who has worked on Wolf series for almost two decades, has been tapped to direct the upcoming episode of Chicago PD that will serve as a embedded pilot for the potential legal Chicago offshoot, tentatively titled Chicago Law. That will be Episode 21 of the current third season of Chicago PD, which is slated to begin production in late March. Toplined by Strike Back alum Winchester, the series eyes a launch next season.
This marks De Segonzac’s return to pilot duty for Wolf — he directed the pilots for two Law & Order spinoffs, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He also has helmed multiple episodes of Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: CI, as well as the mothership Law & Order series and Chicago Fire. De Segonzac’s episodic directing credits also include drams Bloodline, The Americans, In Treatment and Damages.
Chicago PD is executive produced by Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, Danielle Gelber Mark Tinker and Peter Jankowski for Wolf Films and Universal Television.
De Segonzac’s deal was brokered by Paul Alan Smith at ESA.
