EXCLUSIVE: Svensk Filmindustri has acquired Horizon Line, a spec script by Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken that will be helmed by Babak Najafi. The scribes wrote the JJ Abrams-produced thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane which opens March 11, and Najafi directed London Has Fallen, the Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman-starrer that opens March 4. The spec is a suspense thriller that follows a couple on a small airplane that loses its way over the Pacific Ocean. Production will begin this fall, and Svensk will soon start casting.
Fredrik Wikström Nicastro is producing for Svensk Filmindustri with Svensk Filmindustri CEO Jonas Fors serving as executive producer. This is Najafi and Wikstrom Nicastro’s second collaboration, after they made Easy Money: Hard To Kill, the follow-up to Snabba Cash. It’s the scribes’ second teaming with Wikstrom Nicastro, after they scripted the English-language remake of Easy Money (Snabba Cash).
Horizon Line becomes one of the first feature projects included in Svensk Filmindustri’s strategy to produce English-language thrillers with top Scandinavian talent attached, which at present also includes a remake of Easy Money and Ibiza, with Studiocanal on board to finance. “I am thrilled to continue the fruitful and creative collaboration with director Babak Najafi and such talented writers as Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Horizon Line is one of the most suspenseful, original scripts I have ever read,” Wikstrom Nicastro says.
Najafi is repped by UTA and Shelley Browning at Magnolia Entertainment; Campbell and Stuecken are repped by UTA and Madhouse Entertainment.
