EXCLUSIVE: Back at the last Cannes, Woody Allen revealed to Deadline that the deal he made to create a TV series for Amazon was haunting his every step. He’s in a much better place now. In fact, Allen has set the principal cast for the six half-hour-episode series that will take place in the 1960s, and it certainly is unexpected.
Allen, who wrote the scripts and will direct, has set Elaine May and Miley Cyrus to star alongside him. I don’t know a lot more than this, as Allen is shrewd offering information on his projects. It begins shooting in March. He previously worked with May in Small Time Crooks, and this is the first time he has worked with Cyrus. Allen and May are repped by ICM, Cyrus by CAA.
This is actually great news! Elaine May was the best part of “Small Time Crooks”. She’s hysterical!
I’m so thrilled that woody will be on screen again. Best of fave.
What will Miley be.
No doubt Woody’s love interest will be Miley. Ugh.
I thought it sounded more like they’re her grandparents unless it’s three people who get thrown together. I don’t see Woody trying to play Miley’s love interest. It’s been several years since he’s played that role in one of his projects.
I think NOT, and a cheap shot. Mr. Allen always assembles really interesting casts for his projects. If anyone can make Ms. Cyrus resonate on the screen, it’ll be The Woodster. Having Elaine May on board should make this extra fun.
Oh God, he’s resuscitating the Holly Golightly manqué that didn’t work in “Whatever Works.” Miley will probably play a character named Una or Honeybee.

There hasn’t been as exciting a pairing of age-disparate actresses since $#*! MY DAD SAYS teamed up Jean Smart with Tila Tequila.
I saw an earlier unconfirmed report that Woody was looking for a young Jack Lemmon for the Amazon project. I admire the way Woody keeps moving at 80. He just finished a film set in the 1930s and shot with a new digital camera in New York and Los Angeles.
Availability aside if he’s genuinely looking for a young Jack Lemmon Ben Feldman from “Mad Men” and “Superstore” might be a way to go. More Oscar winners than any other director so questioning what he sees in Miley Cyrus is ludicrous.
I have full faith in Woody Allen. Plus I thought Miley Cyrus actually did a good job in the American remake of LOL so she’s not a deal breaker to me so long as she can keep her tongue in her mouth.
She was great in Netflix’s “A Very Murray Christmas.”

At 80 Woody Allen continues to be an untapped. gold mine producing 24K nuggets from his fertile insightful mind. A rarity!
I used to be a huge fan of Woody’s but his movies are just recycled messes right now. His plots are all variations on his earlier works and they are all mainly variations on similar themes. He even repeats some of the same dialogue from film to film. His artistic well as gone dry.
Please reuse Parker posey. She was wasted in irrational man. Not wasted but not used well enough.
