TV Land has given a pilot order to Nobodies (form. Friends with Melissa), a single-camera comedy executive produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone through their production banner On The Day. The husband-and-wife duo — both Groundlings alums — will direct the pilot and are set to guest-star – Falcone in the pilot, Mike & Molly leading lady McCarthy in a future episode, should the project go to series.
Nobodies is starring fellow Groundlings alums Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras (Mike Tyson Mysteries) who wrote the pilot and executive produce. It is inspired by the trio’s real lives as they watched as their friends from The Groundlings went on to star in blockbuster comedies and win Oscars, while they toiled away in Hollywood.
Nobodies, which will film this winter in Los Angeles, will follow Davidson, Dorf and Ramras, playing themselves, as they try desperately to land one of their famous friends for a feature script that they’ve developed so that they, too, can rise to fame in Hollywood.
“Hugh, Larry, and Rachel tell stories that are so funny, you honestly can’t believe they’re true,” said TV Land’s EVP Keith Cox. “It’s their unique take on exactly what it’s like toiling away in Hollywood – and it is that unfiltered comedy that we’re looking for.”
Nobodies had been a high-priority project for TV Land where it was put into development in July. It now joins another TV Land comedy pilot, I Shudder, starring Hamish Linklater and Megan Hilty, whose future has not been decided. Additionally, the network has in development an untitled John Wells/John Riggi/Warner Horizon Television project inspired by the life of Kyle Richards, which remains in contention for a pilot order.
