“The paleface media says we’re all going to hell — but maybe we’re just the first ones to set the fire.” Here is the first footage from The Get Down, creator Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix drama thats tell the story of a group of kids in the late-1970s New York amid the rise of disco, punk and hip-hop. The music-driven series stars Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Tremaine Brown Jr and Skylan Brooks as a ragtag crew of South Bronx teenagers. Armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, magic markers and spray cans, they are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except one another.

Hip-hop icon (and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer) Grandmaster Flash is an associate producer and adviser on the project, which also stars Herizen Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito. Part 1 of the series from Sony Pictures TV will premiere this year, but no specific date has been announced.
