The Ellen DeGeneres Show has received another early renewal. Following a strong fall performance, the popular daytime syndicated talk show, previously picked up by the NBC Owned Television Stations through the 2016-2017 season, has been extended through summer 2020 (2019-2020 season) in a deal with distributor Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
The series, from Telepictures Productions, will continue to air on 10 of the NBC-owned stations including WNBC (New York), KNBC (Los Angeles) and WMAQ (Chicago). In four markets, including New York and Los Angeles, Ellen and its lead-in, Steve Harvey, will slide by an hour, from 3 PM-5PM to 2 PM-4 PM, in May to make room for a local newscast at 4 PM. The newscast, which joins 4 PM newscasts already airing on a number of other NBC stations, will fill the void in the stations’ lineups left by the pending departure of The Meredith Vieira Show.
“For more than a decade, Ellen has anchored the daytime lineups of the NBC-owned stations, offering our viewers a great afternoon show, delivering a strong lead in for our early evening newscasts and helping to launch new hits,” said Valari Staab, President, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. The new hits Staab is referring to include talker Steve Harvey, which has done well paired with Ellen.
“Day in and day out Ellen delivers the best show on television,” said Ken Werner, President, WBDTD. “Ellen and her team produce a completely unique and exciting hour, which is appointment television for viewers everywhere.”
Ellen ranked as the No. 1-rated talk show in women 25-54 across all overnight LPM markets for the fourth consecutive November sweep, while improving 7% over the previous-year time-period rating in the key female demo (1.6 rtg vs. 1.5 Nov 14 TP rtg). Additionally, Ellen delivered the biggest women 25-54 rating gains over its lead-in for the 13th consecutive sweep (since May 11).
Across the NBC stations, Ellen was up 8% over the November 2014 time period with women 25-54 (1.4 rtg. vs. 1.3). In top market New York, Ellen more than doubled its Steve Harvey lead-in rating and delivered a five-year time period high rating (1.5 rtg, strongest November sweep since November 2010).
In addition to its strong linear ratings, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has established itself as a leading generator of viral content, scoring the highest digital rating in 2015 with 2.5 billion engagements, according to ListenfFirst.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which has received 55 Daytime Emmy Awards, originates from Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank and is produced by A Very Good Production and WAD Productions, Inc. in association with Telepictures. DeGeneres, Mary Connelly, Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner and Kevin Leman serve as executive producers.
